CFI Future Fire Breathers showing off what a healthy diet does for them.
During the Summer, it's a little easier to monitor and maintain what your children are eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but what do you do now that they are heading back to school? Ok, so they may have hit up the ice cream truck a few times, but what would Summer be without those treats? The truth is, what you put in your kid's lunch doesn't have to be any different than what you are feeding them at home. In fact, that's exactly how it should be. If you give them a Tupperware container with some chicken, an apple, some celery sticks or broccoli, and some almonds, that's what they are going to eat. You aren't going to be able to avoid the occasional Friday pizza party or the popcorn and candy at a sleepover, but they're kids and they will live. But instead of stressing about what you're going to put in your child's lunch everyday, keep it simple and continue to do exactly what you have been doing all Summer. You have started to build healthy habits, now all you have to do is maintain them.

School is Right Around the Corner…

School may be right around the corner, but that doesn't mean your kids have to drop all the physical activity they endured over the Summer just to hit the books. Take time to ask your children what they enjoyed most and see what they can continue to participate in during the school year. Keeping your child involved in extra-curricular activities has its health and wellness benefits, but children who remain physically active sleep better and are better able to handle physical and mental adversities- from running around on the playground to tackling that Math test. Summer may be nearing an end, but the fun and fitness can continue year-round.

“Listen, Listen, Listen and then ask strategic questions”

Kids are always asking adults "Who, what, when, where, and why?," so now it's your turn to ask them! Though your kids are out of school for the Summer, they still have a lot going on during the day! Camps and trips can lead to a lot of exciting stories and conversations at the dinner table, so ask away! Your children may not have stories to share about a math test or a new book their reading, but maybe they have found a new game they like or tried a new sport. Summer is a time for kids to explore things they may not have time to try during the school year, so pick their brains at the end of the day. They'll enjoy telling you stories just as much as you will enjoy listening.

Success Story
Jeff H. from Seattle
Thank you for welcoming me into your Crossfit family while visiting from
Seattle. I consider all of you to be incredible trainers, and your facility
to be the ideal Crossfit gym.
Two things that especially stood out for me as a visitor:
1. You took time to ask questions, determine fitness levels, and work with
each participant (myself included) to make the workout appropriate for each
athlete's fitness level.
2. The atmosphere in the gym is very supportive. After being there for 5
minutes, I got to know many of my fellow Crossfitters and enjoyed all of the
post-workout congratulations and fist bumps.
I hope to see you all next year when I return to Glenview for this annual
trip.
Thanks, and keep up the great work!
Jeff H.
